Louisiana
Although there are no known cougar populations in Louisiana, there have been verified sightings in the state. A cougar was killed by police in 2008 after attempts to tranquilize the roaming animal failed.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has confirmed sightings of cougars as recently as 2011.
The LDWF asks residents report any sightings immediately.
