Nebraska: No Mountain Lion Hunting in 2016
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has decided against holding a mountain lion hunting season for the second year running. Recent studies have indicated that there are only 16-37 cougars in the Pine Ridge area of the state. During the state’s first cougar hunting season in 2014 (when the population was estimated to be no larger
than 22 animals), 5 cougars were killed by hunters, while another 11 died from various causes. 10 of the 16 cougars killed that year were females, which strongly influenced the Commission’s decision to suspend hunting.Click here to read the full story from the Lincoln Journal Star.
